 Snowy Mountains

This week end, we drove down to the Snowy Mountains, at the border of NSW and Victoria, about 450 km south of Sydney. The Snowy are the most popular skiing area in the country, however as you can imagine, Australia is not really the best place in the word for this kind of activity…

We left Sydney Thursday night after work, then after  4-5 hours drive, we stopped for the night between Canberra and the Snowy, just before reaching the cold area !!!

The next day we reached the Kosciuszko National park, where snow was already covering the top of the mountains, despite being still in the middle of autumn. After a bit of fishing, (of course we didn’t catch anything, on the picture that’s just Kevin trying to remove the fish line stuck under a rock…) we found a nice spot for the night, next to a river, where we cooked a great wood fire dinner !!!!

When we woke up next morning, we were amazed to find plenty of kangaroos all around us, after playing a bit with them, we drove to Thredbo, a popular skiing station. From there we did a walk to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, Australian’s highest mainland summit (2228m). The view up there was really beautiful, especially with the snow and the blue sky. We were quite lucky during the week end with the weather, nice and sunny, despite the temperature dropping down to 2-3 degrees at night time.

We spent the next nigh at Charlotte pass, from where we walked to the Blue lake the next day. When we came back to the van after a 3h walk I realised I had lost my camera, so we walked back again to the Blue lake… Unfortunately we couldn’t find any trace of it, that was because actually I just dropped it next to the van, after the 1st walk ...
